Jaycee Cardoso is a 21 year-old emerging young artist from Long Island, New York. He began studying violin at age 6, and is now a senior at the Manhattan School of Music who has won many awards, competitions, and seated first in various orchestras and festivals.
Jaycee has played various performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Kodak Hall at the Eastman Theatre, the New World Center, Steinway Hall NYC, The Long Island Tilles Center, St. Peter's Church in NYC, Symphony Space, LeFrak Concert Hall, Hillwood Recital Hall, the Adelphi Performing Arts Center, the Madison Theater at Molloy College, Reid Castle at Manhattanville College, and the Staller Center at Stony Brook. He has played in masterclasses for Aaron Rosand, Mihaela Martin, Raimar Orlovsky from the Berlin Philharmonic, Roger Tapping of the Juilliard String Quartet, Fei-Fei Dong, Lawrence Dutton from the Emerson String Quartet, the ETHEL Quartet, and members of the Imani Winds.
Jaycee was appointed concertmaster and principal leader in many different orchestras, such as the New York Youth Symphony, Long Island String Festival Association, NYSCAME All-County, the Long Island Youth Orchestra and the LIU Post Chamber Music Festival Conductor’s Ensemble. He made his orchestral solo debut in 2016 when Jaycee won first prize for the GYO Annual Concerto Competition playing at the Adelphi Performing Arts Center. His recital debut was in October 2016 with pianist Haewon Kim. Jaycee is a laureate of the YWCA of Queens New York Music Competion, and is a two-time winner of the Gemini Youth Orchestras Concerto Competition. Additionally, he is a recipient of the Presser Scholar Artist Award, New York Youth Symphony Vargas-Vetter/Ukena Fellowship Award, the 2019 Otto Kahn Scholarship Award in Music, the Island Symphony Orchestra Howard Cinnamon Scholarship, a U.S. Marine Corps Award in Music, and the Maureen Jenness Orchestral Award, among others.
During the summer of 2017 Jaycee performed at the Summit Music Festival in New York where he studied with legendary violinist Aaron Rosand and violinist Christina Khimm, as part of their intensive violin program. Previously, during the summers of 2015 to 2017, Jaycee performed in the LIU Post Chamber Music Festival, and can now be found in their alumni newsletter. He has won Outstanding Ensemble Awards, the Erick Friedman Memorial Award, the 2016 Tilles Scholar Award, the Rex Chao Memorial Prize, and placed second in their Concerto Competition. For two out of the three summers, Jaycee worked as a summer festival intern, and was soloist in Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4. For the summer of 2018, Jaycee performed with Carnegie Hall's NYO2 ensemble for the 2018 season, where he performed under conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto and soloist Gil Shaham at the New World Center in Miami and at Carnegie Hall. He has performed internationally in Spain with the New York Youth Symphony, and also in Italy as a part of the Counterpoint Italy Summer Festival.
Jaycee is a member of the contemporary worship group Pursuing JC, who has gone on tour with Christian artists such as Unspoken, Danny Gokey, and For King and Country. During the pandemic, he started a TikTok account (@jaycee_violin) covering various popular songs on the violin, and has amassed over 190,000 followers on the platform. He has also recorded for many contemporary pop artists, such as the Jonas Brothers. Jaycee is a student at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Kelly Hall-Tompkins, award winning soloist, famed former student of Glen Dicterow (former Concertmaster of the NY Philharmonic) and former concertmaster for "Fiddler on the Roof". He has also previously studied with Dale Stuckenbruck. Jaycee owns a violin crafted by Xiao-Hang Luo from Elmont NY.
